Important Information for Penultimate-Semester Thesis Students

Every MS Thesis student in CDS graduating within two semesters must complete the To-Do List in the below table within the deadlines.
Due to time limitation, students graduating at Fall semesters are strongly encouraged to finish their proposals at Spring, not Summer.
Forms including all the signatures (except the graduate advisor's) must be submitted to Ms. Donna Murray, stddlg22@shsu.edu, or in-person at her office AB1-214C, unless it's instructed to submit to other departments.

1. Audit Degree Works	1-1.	Register for COSC 6348.	See Academic Calendar
2. Form Committee	2-1.	Select your thesis supervisor and 2-3 committee members from the list of faculty. Note that thesis committee chairs, co-chairs, and members must hold graduate faculty status. See How to Find a Supervisor. × How to Find a Supervisor With the rarest exception, you expect your supervisor to be a professor who have taught you. Some students still choose supervisors as their research interests and the professors' do match. Email a professor you hope will agree to be your supervisor first. It's good to take a look each professor's webpage with their research works published. When approaching a faculty member, attach 1- to 2-page prospectus explaining the topic of your thesis or report. If the professor agrees on your project, ask the professor's advice about possible committee members, suggesting anyone you have in mind.	As early as possible

	2-3.	Submit ACA: Advisory Committee Agreement Form.
	2-4.	Submit Thesis Initiation Sheet to The Graduate School via email at thegraduateschool@shsu.edu.
3. Propose Thesis	3-1.	Schedule your thesis proposal presentation.	As early as possible
	3-2.	Distribute supervisor-approved proposal documents (ppt slides and proposal report) to committee members. For what to include, please contact your supervisor. (Here are samples: Example Slide 1, Example Slide 2, Example Proposal Document)	One week prior to your project proposal date
	3-3.	Present your proposal.	On your scheduled proposal date
