Double Dip (Enrolled in two programs in parallel):
Student can get admitted and enrolled in the two programs, maximum, and work in parallel. Please note that "enrolled in two master programs in parallel", however, is NOT allowed, but only "one master and one certificate" or "two certificates". The overlapped credits are count towards the both programs. Student must apply to both programs to double-dip.
A student with non CS-terminal degree may receive a probationary admission to the CDS program, being required to take prerequisite (undergraduate) CDS courses. Based on an applicant's background, such a probation might be waived -- the decision is made by Admission Committee (not by Graduate Advisor) after a comprehensive evaluation on your CV, transcripts, recommendation letters, etc.
A student with non CS-terminal degree may receive a probationary admission to the DF/IAC/Certificate programs, being required to take COSC 5301/5302 as preparation Stem courses. Based on an applicant's background, such a probation might be waived -- the decision is made by Admission Committee (not by Graduate Advisor) after a comprehensive evaluation on your CV, transcripts, recommendation letters, etc.
Transferring Credits
From a certificate to a master's program: up to 5 courses (15 credits)
From a master to a master: up to 2 courses (6 credits)
Maximum Credits Per Semester
Student can take 1 - 4 courses per semester (The same applies for a summer session.)
International student must take at least 3 courses per semester unless
they are graduate assistants who can get a course waiver per semester, and/or
they are in their terminal-semester and need a less course load to complete the degree program.
Check carefully with a Graduate Advisor and the International office.
If you do not start your first semester not enrolling in any courses, you must defer your admission to a future term, otherwise new application through ApplyTexas.org is required to return to the program.
If you resign at your first semester, a new application through ApplyTexas.org is required to return to the program.
If a student is returning after not taking any classes during two long semesters (Fall or Spring), a new application through ApplyTexas.org is required to return to the program.
Time Limits for Completion of Degrees:
A student has six years to complete the master's degree and certificate program from the date of initial enrollment for graduate credit. After the expiration of the time limit, courses from the first term will expire; courses will continue to expire each subsequent term. A student who returns to the program after the expiration date will have to retake the expired classes.
